This was possibly the worst check-in experience I have ever had. We booked this hotel because it was pet friendly, and were prepared to pay the pet fee that was advertised on Expedia. I purposely booked a room that was not marked with the “no pets” designation. But upon check-in the desk attendant, Curt, Informed me that there were no pet friendly rooms available, so our prepaid reservation for a pet friendly room was not honored. And while he was civil about it, it was also very clear that he could not care less about our predicament that we had arrived with a dog, having paid for a pet friendly room, only to find that there weren’t any. When I pointed this out, Curt simply said that it was our fault because we had booked through Expedia and not through the hotel’s own website. He kept emphasizing again and again that the hotel was not responsible for anything that happened with a reservation on a third-party site. He also threw in that I should have known better, apparently, because this is such a common problem with Expedia and other third-party sites. I asked why, if it was such a common problem, the problem had not been corrected? For which he had no answer.
I will not say he was rude, but that almost made his complete lack of caring worse. It was a restrained form of contempt for the customer.
So our dog spent the night in the car, with us getting up every couple of hours to check on him and make sure he was OK. Thank heavens it was temperate weather.
